Guto Barra is a New York-based filmmaker and television director, founder of Producing Partners. He is the co-creator of numerous hit series on Brazilian television, including “Além da Conta Com Ingrid Guimarães” and “Anota Aí”. Since 2011 he has developed and directed the reality series Dançando Na Broadway and Mundo em Movimento and the acclaimed MTV Brazil series ModMTV. His films have been shown in prestigious venues such as the Museum of Modern Art, in New York, Haus der Kulturen der Werld, in Berlin, and the Musee d’Art Moderne della Ville de Paris. Guto’s award-winning feature documentary Beyond Ipanema inspired a television series on Canal Brasil, shot in Asia, Europe and the United States. Most recently, he co-directed “Nelson 70”, a music series with an accompanying original soundtrack. Guto holds a degree in Journalism and has worked extensively in news, covering themes like entertainment, technology and fashion. He is experienced in all aspects of broadcast and film production, having also worked in projects for American Networks like PBS and FuelTV.

Clash of Cultures

MTV BRAZIL/ST2 VIDEO

 

Produced by Planet Pop and released as a DVD with a CD soundtrack by MTV Brazil/ST2 Video, "Clash of Cultures" features Scissor Sisters, Peaches, Ladytron, Miss Kittin and Fischerspooner. Directed by Guto Barra, the film portraits the New York electronic scene of the post-September 11th era.

Ivete Sangalo Madison Square Garden

MULTISHOW/UNIVERSAL MUSIC

 

When Ivete Sangalo, Brazil's biggest pop star, decided to record a live DVD at Madison Square Garden, Universal Music Brazil commissioned Chocolate Productions with a documentary about the event. Edited by Guto Barra, the film was included on the DVD and broadcast on Multishow.

ModMTV

MTV BRAZIL

 

Guto Barra directed (along Gisela Matta, Paula Buarque and Ronaldo Lemos) the series "ModMTV", about technology and pop culture. Featuring artists, writers and thinkers from all over the world, the series is produced in New York City by Chocolate Productions. 

Concrete PowWow

FUEL TV

 

Some of the best-known professional skaters appear on this Chocolate Productions television special about skateboarding in Native American communities. Edited by Guto Barra and directed by Gisela Matta and Jamie Brisick, "Concrete PowWow" aired on the American Network Fuel TV.
